My previous post discussed the issues surrounding my experience testing out the new site ‘genealogy.us.org’.
I was not happy. This site gives all the signs of being a scam including:
- Confusing instructions and setup.
- Maze of links either leading one nowhere, in a circle, or to other areas where payment is needed.
- No download (product) produced after payment.
Well, today I did my usual morning reading and research and noticed another PR Web press release from a site called ‘ancestor.us.org’. The name was so similar to the previous site that my interest was piqued and I immediately checked it out.
Guess what? It’s a clone of the first site – exactly, except for the name and url.
I have placed an image of the screenshot of this site’s main page at the top of this post as a link to the full size image. They’ve done it once now, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they clone this site even more in their attempt to lure unsuspecting customers (uh, ‘suckers’) to their sites and circumvent the bad review I’ve published and I’m sure numerous others that are sure to soon populate the web.
Be sure to get a look at the screenshot and watch for other sites with this same main page where the names are changed to protect the ‘guilty’.
