Trace your Canadian roots for free Canada Day weekend, June 27 to July 2, 2012 at Ancestry.ca.

This is a great opportunity to access over 40 million records covering the years prior to Confederation up to present day. Records available include birth, marriage, death, censuses, immigration, passenger lists, military, and so on.

As a Canadian, I can trace my and my children’s ancestry to nations that include modern United States, British America prior to independence, Great Britain, France, Sweden, Germany, Holland, and on a much smaller scale, several other European countries. As a result of spending incalculable amount of time researching in these other countries, I have neglected Canadian research to some degree. I do intend to take advantage of this opportunity to search for Canadian ancestors who fought on the British side against my husband’s American ancestors. If I find anything, I’ll be posting about it.
